Constructive Criticism

Right now I’m reading the book unChristian:  What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity … and Why It Matters by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons.  It’s an honest eye opener revealing what the under-30 crowd — both belivers and non-believers — thinks about Christianity.  Reading it reminds me of a quote by Mahatma Gandhi I’ve always wanted to get on a t-shirt:  “Oh, I don’t reject your Christ. I love your Christ. It’s just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ.”  Of course, I’ve always been too much of a coward to put that on a t-shirt for fear that it would only stimulate a reaction, not a discussion!  If we intend to introduce people to Yeshua (Jesus), we need to understand WHY people are not receptive.  Hint, it doesn’t have much to do with not “hearing the good news” and more to do with Christians failing to be good disciples.  And it’s less than an image problem — it’s a spiritual problem, a problem with our hearts.  The statistics in this book will shock you (and cause dismay).  But the first part to solving the problem is knowing and understanding the problem!
